The TYCON Mentorship Program connects accomplished individuals from Tsinghua University with second-generation students to inspire growth, guidance, and community. By bringing together mentors who have excelled in diverse fields, the program creates meaningful opportunities for knowledge sharing, career insight, and personal development. Through one-on-one mentorship and group interactions, participants gain valuable perspectives while building lasting connections that bridge experience with ambition.
Program Details
The TYCON Mentorship Program is an exclusive initiative designed for members of the TYCON executive team, who serve on a two-year cycle. The program connects each executive with an accomplished mentor from Tsinghua University, creating a personalized, one-on-one mentorship experience tailored to individual goals, interests, and career aspirations. Mentors are thoughtfully paired with mentees based on background, field of interest, and personal development needs, ensuring meaningful and relevant guidance. Throughout the program, mentors provide insights on leadership, professional growth, and navigating complex career pathways, while also offering a broader perspective shaped by their own achievements. By fostering these close, sustained relationships over the course of the executive term, the program aims to empower TYCON leaders to grow with confidence, clarity, and a strong sense of community.
Mentor Bios

Xuedong D. Huang
Xuedong D. Huang is the Chief Technology Officer of Zoom, where he leads the company’s AI transformation at a global scale, advancing communication, collaboration, and productivity for hundreds of millions of users. With over four decades in artificial intelligence, he is a pioneer in spoken language processing and conversational AI. Prior to joining Zoom, he spent more than 30 years at Microsoft, serving as Technical Fellow and CTO of Azure AI, where he drove industry-first breakthroughs in speech recognition, machine translation, and conversational systems and co-launched Azure OpenAI Service. He holds more than 170 U.S. patents, has authored over 120 research papers and two foundational books, and is an elected member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, as well as a Fellow of IEEE and ACM. Dr. Huang received his bachelor's from Hunan University in 1982, his master’s from Tsinghua University in 1984, and his Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh in 1989.

Chun Xia
Chun Xia currently serves as a Founding Partner of TSVC (formerly TEEC Angel Fund), a Silicon Valley‑based early‑stage venture capital firm focused on deep technology, mobile internet, cloud, and software investments, where he leads strategy, deal sourcing, and portfolio development. Since co‑founding TSVC in 2010, Dr. Xia has backed hundreds of seed‑stage companies, including multiple unicorns, and plays an active role mentoring founders and helping startups scale globally. Earlier in his career, Dr. Xia founded and led several companies, including Mash5 Technologies and Brightinfo. He also held leadership roles at Vuze, Sun Microsystems, Thinkmart, and Engineered Intelligence. Dr. Xia holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana‑Champaign and his B.S. from Tsinghua University.

Cynthia (Xiao Jia) Cai
Cynthia (Xiao Jia) Cai has over thirty years of global experience in healthcare, biotech, and pharmaceuticals. She began her career in scientific instrument sales and is now the founder and president of Tharton Consulting. In this role, she serves as a trusted advisor to biopharma companies and life science investors, including venture capital and private equity firms. Dr. Cai also serves as a venture partner at Viva BioInnovator, focusing on investments in transformative therapeutics across diverse indications. Previously, she was a senior advisor at Northern Light Venture Capital, and has held senior leadership roles at Agilent Technologies, including associate vice president of global marketing, where she oversaw multibillion-dollar businesses in chromatography, automation, and mass spectrometry. Dr. Cai holds a B.S. and M.S. in chemistry and chemical engineering from Tsinghua University, a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a contributor to the Schwarzman Scholars program at Tsinghua University.

Fan Ye
Fan Ye has been serving as President of SUNS International, LLC, a leading manufacturer of high-quality components for medical and industrial applications, since 2002. In this position, he oversees operations, product development, and strategic growth. Under his leadership, SUNS International has become a trusted provider of switches, sensors, and controls for industries including medical equipment, aerial work platforms, utility trucks, off-road vehicles, industrial machinery, and more. Prior to this role, Dr. Ye was a principle engineer at Corning Incorporated, and a postdoctoral research associate at MIT. Dr. Ye earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from The Ohio State University and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tsinghua University.

Sandy Yao
Sandy Yao currently serves as the chief legal officer of Biohub, a research organization on the forefront of AI-powered biology, where she oversees the legal function and all regional institutions. She started at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) in 2021, and also currently serves as a vice president, where she leads legal teams across data privacy, security, intellectual property, and AI policy. Prior to these positions, Dr. Yao was a senior product manager and privacy counsel for Linkedin. Earlier in her career, she worked at law firms Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati as a technology transactions associate, and Occhiuti Rohlicek & Tsao LLP as a technology specialist. Dr. Yao received her JD from Stanford Law, her Ph.D. from MIT, and her B.S. from Tsinghua.

Xuan Luo
Xuan Luo is an accomplished financial professional and entrepreneur with extensive experience in equity derivatives trading and asset management. Mr. Luo currently leads his own business, which he founded in 2022. Prior to this, he served as head of the equity derivatives team at China International Capital Corporation (CICC), where he helped the firm win the China House of the Year award from Asia Risk. Before joining CICC, Mr. Luo worked at CITIC Securities, responsible for over-the-counter (OTC) options trading. Earlier in his career, he also worked at Credit Suisse’s Hong Kong office in equity derivatives trading, where he won numerous top industry awards. Mr. Luo received his M.S. from New York University and his B.S. from Tsinghua University.

Chenlin Cai
Chenlin Cai is a classically trained artist who is currently working part-time as both an adjunct professor at Delaware County Community College and an art instructor at Guanghua Chinese School. He was also a Commissioner at the Pennsylvania Governor’s Advisory Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs from 2022 to 2023. Cai is primarily a visual artist who has worked on mural projects in a variety of cities, and is known for his s unorthodox use of paint on non-traditional materials and surfaces, experimenting with multi-media expression. Cai's works innovatively combine traditional Chinese ink painting with contemporary art expressions to create a unique visual image that fuses art and science. He has held several solo exhibitions in Philadelphia and New York, as well as participated in many world-class art exhibitions, such as the New York Art Expo in 2021 and the 12th Florence Biennale in Italy in 2019. Cai received his MFA from Tsinghua University in 2010, and later from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 2017.

Yueming (Lucy) Qiu
Yueming (Lucy) Qiu is a Professor and Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs at the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland. Her research group focuses on using big data with quasi-experimental and experimental methods to answer empirical questions related to the interactions among consumer behaviors, low-carbon technologies, and incentives. Her research projects have been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Sloan Foundation, the Department of Defense, the Electric Power Research Institute, and the Water Research Foundation.
Dr. Qiu holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and an M.A. in Economics from Stanford University, and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Tsinghua University. She has previously held faculty positions at Arizona State University and conducted research with institutions including Harvard Kennedy School and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Shulin Jiang
Shulin Jiang is a Bilingual Negotiation Trainer, Executive Coach, and entrepreneur. While earning her Master in Public Administration at Harvard University, she coached university-wide communication courses including the Negotiation Workshop, Adaptive Leadership, and Public Narrative, training ministers, diplomats, and corporate executives. She has also served as a Guest Lecturer at Tsinghua University, teaching highly-rated negotiation and storytelling workshops. Ms. Jiang is passionate about bringing Harvard’s negotiation concepts to life within the Chinese cultural context to empower the next-generation leaders. She previously coordinated educational programs for underprivileged students at Harvard, and has mentored first-generation college students for years. Prior to Harvard, she earned a dual B.S. in Molecular Biology and Chemistry from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Master of Science in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University, subsequently working as a Program Officer at the Gates Institute, managing data and global talent development across 11 countries in Africa and South Asia.

Sincia Shi
Sincia Shi is a certified professional coach and former Fortune 500 Vice President with direct P&L responsibility. She specializes in executive coaching and leadership development and has served as a leadership coach at the Doerr Institute for New Leaders and Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University, as well as Texas Leadership at the University of Texas. An International Coaching Federation (ICF) accredited coach, she works with high-potential leaders, senior executives, entrepreneurs, and boards across industries including high tech, healthcare, energy, chemicals, financial services, higher education, nonprofits, and U.S. government organizations. Before transitioning to coaching, Ms. Shi held multiple senior leadership roles at Baker Hughes, including Vice President of Global Supply Chain Materials and Vice President of Russia Caspian, leading a P&L and about 1,800 employees. Her earlier career included global leadership in marketing, strategy, acquisitions and divestitures, pricing, major accounts, engineering, and operations. She holds a B.S. from Tsinghua University and an MBA (Magna Cum Laude) from Duke University.

Ning Wang
Ning Wang is the Director of Investments at the American Chemical Society, where she oversees the Investment Pools and Pension portfolios across all asset classes. She joined ACS in 2023 and is based in Washington, DC. Prior to ACS, Ms. Wang served as a Portfolio Manager at the World Bank Pension, where she managed public equity and private credit portfolios for six years. Earlier in her career, she was a quantitative researcher specializing in fixed income and currency strategies at State Street Global Advisors. Ms. Wang holds a Master of Finance degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a Master’s degree in Finance from Tsinghua University. She is a CFA® charterholder.
