On August 31st, Toronto held its first TYCon city meetup, bringing together 10 Gen2s and guests. As a team, Mia Liu, Bella Yin, and Helen Yang organized a fun afternoon at For The Win, a board game café near downtown Toronto. Over the course of two hours, we played Telestrations, Codenames, and Wavelength while sipping bubble tea.
Telestrations is the visual version of the telephone game, where players draw and guess each other’s sketches. Gen2s’ drawing skills were put to the test, as they determined whether the next player could guess the word correctly or lead us in a completely different direction. Through this game, we discovered surprising artistic talents that resulted in many correct guesses. By the end, it was funny to see how the original word had transformed into something entirely different.
Next, we played Codenames, a game where, in each round, the spymaster gives clues to help their team guess all the correct words before the other team does. This game tested our creativity and efficiency, as coming up with a single-word clue turned out to be more difficult than expected.
Finally, we wrapped up with Wavelength, which measured how well we had gotten to know each other over the last two hours. The game requires one player to select a word along a 180-degree scale, and the team works together to place the cursor at the degree that best matches the chosen word.
